Personal information about job status and levels is required by the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS). The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) requests personal information from agencies about the applicant’s parents’ or guardians’ job situation and income level. NSFAS is committed to maintaining the confidentiality of personal information collected from third parties and to safeguarding the privacy of those whose personal information is provided to NSFAS. NSFAS is also committed to safeguarding personal information and ensuring that it is used lawfully.

What are the requirements for applying for NSFAS?

Copies of the following papers that have been certified:

An unabridged birth certificate or a South African identity document/card

Parental/guardian identification cards or death certificates (where applicable)

Each person who lives with you in your home must have a valid ID.

Pay advice, employment letter, and pension advice ( not older than 3 months)

Please download and complete the Disability Annexure A if you have a disability.

When should you apply for NSFAS and how should you go about doing so?

Each year, from the beginning of August until the end of November, online applications ( are accepted.

The NSFAS call center number is 0860067327, and applicants are urged to keep their cell phones charged.
Signatures of both the applicants and their parents/guardians are required on the consent form.

-Please make sure you have the relevant documentation in electronic format (certified within the last three months).

A birth certificate or your South African ID ( if you do not have a green bar-coded ID or smart ID card)
— Identification of parents and/or guardians, as well as a death certificate if applicable. Pay stubs/letters of employment/pension stubs stating income of parents and/or guardians (SASSA slips are not necessary and SASSA should not be listed as a household income).
