University of KwaZulu-Natal NSFAS Application
About University of KwaZulu-Natal
The University of KwaZulu-Natal was established on January 1, 2004, when the University of Durban-Westville and the University of Natal merged. The new institution combines the rich histories of the two previous universities.
On Salisbury Island in Durban Bay, the University of Durban-Westville was founded in the 1960s as the University College for Indians. Due to the Congress Alliances’ aim of avoiding apartheid structures, student numbers were low during the 1960s. In the 1980s, this program gave place to a campaign of “education under protest,” which aimed to turn apartheid institutions into battlegrounds. The number of students expanded rapidly and in 1971, the College was granted University status.
About University of KwaZulu-Natal NSFAS Application
Financial aid is a type of funding that is based on authorized study costs. The National Bursary Rules and Guidelines of the Department of Higher Education and Training determine the permitted study cost each year.
NSFAS will distribute funds to qualified students depending on their authorized cost of attendance; this does not include coverage for clubs and societies or any fines.
Applicants must visit their My NSFAS portal to see if their application has been approved. NSFAS will notify universities on the funding eligibility of new and returning students.
After registration, qualified students’ registration (cost of study) charges will be remitted to NSFAS.
University of KwaZulu-Natal UKZN NSFAS Application Eligibility Criteria
NSFAS will send UKZN the required application information verifying funding eligibility.
The following eligibility requirements are applied to all UKZN NSFAS applications:

If the student has previously been registered at a tertiary institution, and the number of years of registration, the N+1 rule should be applied.
Will I get reimbursed for all of my expenses if I am successful?
The National Bursary Rules and Guidelines determine the criteria for NSFAS financing each year.
Examples of costs paid can be seen in the Undergraduate Funding Scenarios.
A student, on the other hand, will only be sponsored at one university. If the study costs have already been submitted, your NSFAS funding may be jeopardized if you cancel your registration at one university and register at another. UKZN is not responsible for any financial consequences of altering your registered institution.
Applicants who do not meet the NSFAS eligibility requirements may be considered for UKZN GAP funding if they meet the GAP funding eligibility requirements.
