About Starke Ayres

  • Starke Ayres was founded in 1896 by Charles Starke, who established grain and production enterprises that later amalgamated to form Starke Ayres (Pty) Ltd in 1920. Starke Ayres is now a leading supplier of vegetable, flower, and lawn seed for both household and commercial use.
  • The company, which has more than 130 years of expertise, takes pleasure in producing high-quality seeds with the finest germination capacity and purity. In addition, the organization provides great after-sales support by assisting farmers in growing marketable products.
  • Starke Ayres also sells to home gardeners and farmers, including seeds, soluble fertilizers, and chemical supplies. Its secondary operation is retail, where it sells seeds, chemicals, and soluble fertilizers to subsistence farmers and home gardeners.

About Starke Ayres Bursary

Only students who have completed their first year of study at a post-secondary institution will be considered (i.e. 2nd-year students onwards)
The bursary is renewed on the basis of academic achievement and results each year.

The bursary will cover the costs of registration, tuition, books, and living expenses up to a maximum of R 37 500 each year.

Eligibility requirements 

Before applying, applicants must meet the following minimum entry criteria (please note that if you do not meet all of the requirements, your application will be rejected):

  • South African citizen
  • Completed Matric
  • Studying full-time towards a qualification in one of the aforementioned fields of study
  • Completed the 1st year of study (must be applying for funding from second year onwards)
  • Studying at a recognized South African University.

The Starke Ayres bursary program is for tertiary students who have excelled academically. The following disciplines of study will be given bursaries:

BSc:

  • Plant Science
  • Plant Production
  • Plant Breeding
  • Soil Science
  • Genetics
