About Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing
- For almost a century, Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing has prepared students for meaningful and rewarding careers in nursing by providing specialized information, practical skills, and caring principles.
- Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing, founded in 1903 by the State University of New York to “instruct for the successful profession of nursing,” has graduated over 2,000 nurses.
- Our Associate Degree program teaches and prepares students to work as professional nurses who are experienced and capable. Graduates receive a two-year Associate in Science degree and can sit for the National Council Licensure Exam (NCLEX). A number of universities have articulation agreements with upper-division BSN finishing programs.
- Students in our Practical Nurse Certificate (PN) program gain college credit for their coursework.
Graduates of the PN program are entitled to take the National Council Licensure Exam after completing the program. - St. Peter’s Health Partners, the region’s most comprehensive not-for-profit network of healthcare, supportive housing, and community services, is linked with Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing.
- Our sister school, St. Peter’s Hospital College of Nursing, has a close working partnership with Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing.
Students can satisfy curricular requirements in the sciences and humanities at Hudson Valley Community College thanks to our educational partnership.
Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing Programs
- The Associates in Science (A.S.) degree in Nursing program at Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing is designed to educate and prepare students to become skilled and competent professional nurses.
- Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing also provides a Practical Nurse Certificate in addition to its AD program (PN).
Admission Requirements
- All candidates must have completed high school or have a High School Equivalency Diploma (GED) with a total standard score of 2400 or higher and a standard score of 480 or higher on each of the GED tests.
- These results are based on the most recent GED version. For the previous version of the GED, each of the GED tests must have a standard score of 48 or higher, for a total standard score of 240.
- Candidates must pass all five (5) portions of the Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC) with a minimum score of 500 on each of the following sections to get a High School Equivalency (HSE):
- Language Arts – Reading
- Language Arts – Writing
(which includes an essay) - Mathematics
- Science
- Social Studies
