Profile National Agricultural Marketing Council

The Marketing of Agricultural Products Act No. 47 of 1996, as amended by Act No. 59 of 1997 and Act No. 52 of 2001, established the NAMC. We’re a government-run agency that reports to the Minister of Agriculture, Land Reform, and Rural Development. Our mandate is encapsulated in our four primary divisions: Agricultural Development, Agricultural Trusts, Statutory Measures and Markets, and the Economic Research Centre (MERC).

The NAMC’s work is guided by the four strategic objectives outlined in Section 2 of the MAP Act of 1996, namely:

  • to increase market access for all market participants;
  • to promote the efficiency of the marketing of agricultural products;
  • to optimize export earnings from agricultural products; and
  • to enhance the viability of the agricultural sector.

About National Agricultural Marketing Council Bursary

The National Agricultural Marketing Council is accepting applications for the bursary program from qualified applicants. The NAMC scholarship program provides both internal and external bursaries to students who aspire to pursue higher education in the subject of agriculture.

Required documents

Applicants must attach certified copies of the following documents:

  • ID
  • Most recent academic results
  • For Grade 12 or applicants currently not studying, proof of admission from a tertiary institution

Applications without any of the above documents will be disregarded.

Basic eligibility requirements 

  • Citizen of South Africa
  • A good academic record
  • A financial need that has been established
  • Students interested in disciplines related to agriculture, such as Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Science, and Horticulture, should apply.

Timelines for fresh applications

September 10 marks the deadline for the acceptance of new applications. Any applications sent after the said date will not be considered. Applicants must endeavor to respect the stipulated timelines for their applications to be considered.
