The FET Colleges Act no 16 of 2006, as modified, regulates Ekurhuleni West Technical, Vocational, Education and Training College (EWC). It was formed under the Further Education and Training Act, Act No. 98 of 1998, as stated by the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Education (Gauteng Province) in an Extraordinary Provincial Gazette (dated 7 December 2001).
The Ekurhuleni West TVET College is located in the Gauteng Province of South Africa, in the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality. EWC has six (6) campuses that serve a varied range of communities: Alberton, Boksburg, Germiston, Kathorus (near Katlehon), and Germiston.

In Xitsonga, “Ekurhuleni” means “place of calm.” The names “Ekurhuleni” and “West” were inspired by the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality and the Western Belt within the Municipality, where all of the campuses are located.
