ccne accreditation – AACN

  • The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) represents academic nursing on a national level. AACN promotes public support for professional nursing education, research, and practice by working to establish quality standards for nursing education, assisting schools in implementing those standards, influencing the nursing profession to improve health care, and influencing the nursing profession to improve health care.
  • Curriculum Standards for AACN Programs: AACN has overseen the development of a series of Essentials documents that establish competency requirements for graduates of baccalaureate, master’s, and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) programs using a nationwide consensus-based process. Schools of nursing can use these documents to guarantee that their training programs comply to the highest standards and meet accreditation rules. Quality indicators for research-focused doctoral programs, a white paper on the Clinical Nurse Leader, and guidelines outlining key clinical resources for nursing education, research, and faculty practice have all been published by the AACN.

  • Doctor of Nursing Practice programs, post-graduate advanced practice registered nurse certificate programs, entry-to-practice nurse residency programs, and nurse practitioner fellowship/residency programs are all accredited by the CCNE. By reviewing and identifying programs that engage in successful educational practices, CCNE serves the public interest. The ability of the parent institution to offer a high-quality program worthy of public approval is demonstrated by CCNE accreditation. The accreditation procedure takes different amounts of time depending on the program.
  • The accreditation review process begins with a program obtaining new applicant status. Institutions with no CCNE-accredited nursing programs are proposing new applicant status for their programs. New accreditation applicants are eligible for a maximum 5-year accreditation period. The status of the new applicant indicates an affiliation with CCNE, not accreditation. As per the program’s most recent CCNE on-site evaluation, CCNE accreditation actions are in effect. Accreditation evaluations should be scheduled in advance for new applicants. If you would like to submit your application electronically, please email the completed application to¬†applicants@ccneaccreditation.org.
